Peter Märkli > Haus in Grabs, 1995

Source: hiddenarchitecture

A typical place in Switzerland, a “Kaff”, a collection of houses that look like wooden branches scattered in the countryside. The new freestanding house promises a small advantage, views, limited by near houses, rather than looking to interstitial spaces. This well-condensed form of settlement spread in the metropolitan areas from Lake Constance to Lake Geneva. This typology is completed by a idiosyncratic distance. To the nature of the place reminding, it is a thrown stone, which in the flat green has forever found its place. Architecturally, the house is one archetype – a detached house. Made of concrete, it becomes interpreted as a compact structure. The concrete is smooth, textile-like textured.
