Nisyros is a volcanic Greek island and municipality located in the Aegean Sea. It is part of the Dodecanese group of islands, situated between the islands of Kos and Tilos. A place of wild beauty, as Nisyros was formed by volcanic eruptions. The island is one of the lesser known of the Greek islands but it draws arty crowd to its black-sand beaches and hilltop villages. Sterna residence is a beautiful house on the island that can be rented. Originally built as a two-storey tower in the mid-17th century, the residence was the first to be restored in the medieval castle after its collapse in the devastating earthquake of 1933. The restoration work has been meticulous, with the use of traditional materials and on the basis of historical documentation. The tasteful decor of the interior is characterised by whitewashed minimalism and enhanced by the intriguing sculptures of Sterna’s resident artists.
